Mom’s Cooking

My mom is a no ordinary cook. She was born with it am certain. I do not recall any one thing she made that I had doubt other than swallowing all there was including the bowl (if I could).

Food was love for her. And love was food for her. She gave me the whole world through her cooking and loving. She loved doing anything with her mind and hands.

Nai Nai’s noodle - jiu pian was my favorite (and the kids’ favorite) she would cut lamb in small dice, veges too. Frying the lamb long till they are slightly burnt on the edges. Then veges go in. Stir stir and stir. Adding her golden proportioned seasoning before hot water goes in to make the soup. Followed by the hand pinched square noodles she made. All to a boil. The eyeball of the dragon would open when she touched the soup with…vinegar.

It brightens everything.

And timing-yes you must eat it in the first 5 mins before the noodles change its texture. I had how many bowls of her best making. Wish I could count to a number but it had to be numerous if not countless.

Kids had fortune, especially Blake to have tried it for many times, for as much as they could through those trips to vast China then mom’s little corner kitchen where we all began.
